lol no NR Maori dont eat people to gain spiritual energy lol
it had nothing to do with that at all ^^

it was to scare the ship out of the people that were not eaten and it worked lol

its not practiced anymore because the maori had adapted into the european lifestyle but the culture will never deny their heritage and what happened in the past.. we more show our past than hide it... no fear..

yeah i did write in a previous post why Maori's ate the Mori Ori's and that was the main time that they became cannibalistic really... there were other instances but it was the same reason.. (scare tactics)

lol a long time ago that was true, Maori became cannibalistic for 1 reason these people called the Mori Ori were taking land and because of their small numbers the maori didnt have to kill them all but show them that the Maori are not to be messed with so what happened was this 1 Maori Chief went to a Mori Ori settlement and killed everyone there he then made the survivors watch as he ate the flesh of the dead and cooked their decomposed bodies feeding it to his warriors doing this he said: "now that my warriors have tasted the flesh of the Mori Ori they will kill every single Mori Ori (this was on the North Island of New Zealand) well what the Chief said came true his warriors killed every single Mori Ori that came to NZ but were not able to kill the ones in the South Island because of the Maori Tribes were not agreeing with each other at that time. to this day there are under 1000 known Mori Ori people still living in New Zealand that carry the bloodline from their slain ancestors.

apparently the Maori were not the first people to claim and live on New Zealand.. there were other nomad tribes/ pirates/ missionaries.. that came to NZ aswell during this time. but the Maori integrated with the nomad tribes and learned english from the missionaries... not much was herd about pirates except that they were heavily sighted in the pacific ^__^

ok.. i never saw that part..

i am not sure where they got that information but Maori dont have that sort of belief unless they are from South Island.. (i dont know much about them.. i dont even know if they ate people..) their belief is sacrificing to the many gods for their mana.. sky, earth, sea, forest, mountain, sun, moon etc many many gods they believe in but sacrifices arnt practiced any more..

well im not keen on being a cannible and i dont think it would be considered Humane to sacrifice someone as a tribute to ancient gods that have no reflect on todays society..

Maori wouldnt really care on how the world would percieve them (except for Maori politicians -.-) for example they tattoo their face as a symbol of status men and women (im suppose to get a Ta-Moko (maori design tattoo) when i have children because a Ta-Moko represents the bloodline of family, spouse and off-spring... the Ta-Moko can be on the face or arm.. there are other maori tattoos that represent other things but i dont want to go into detail.
for women the mostly have the lips tattooed and the chin
for men its the face, arms, chest, back and butt cheeks.

Mike Tyson has the worst possible example of a Ta-Moko Tattood on his face, there was alot of discrimination from the Maori authorities but it blew over eventually.

yes but it was eventually gotten over because he said a public apology even though he said on International television that it was a completely different design and had no relation to the Maori people of New Zealand wich was a lie because it was done the traditional way with indian ink chizel and hammer not by tattoo gun.
but as i said it eventuall blew over.
