The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
=============================
Synopsis: Makoto Konno, a girl attending high school in Tokyo's shitamachi, realizes she has the power to go back in time and re-do things (called a "time-leap") when she impossibly avoids a fatal accident at a train crossing one day.
Bewildered, she consults with her aunt throughout the film. At first, Makoto uses her power extravagantly to avoid being tardy and to get perfect grades on tests, and even relive a single karaoke session for about ten hours. However, things begin to turn bad as she discovers how her actions can adversely affect others.
Themes: Time Travel, School Life, Love Story
Duration: 98 minutes

5 Centimeters Per Second
=============================
Synopsis: A tale of two people, divided into 3 short stories, Tono Takaki and Shinohara Akari, who were close friends but gradually grow farther and farther apart as time moves on. They become separated because of their families yet continue to exchange contact in the form of letters. Yet as time continues to trudge on, their contact with one another begins to cease. Years pass and the rift between them grows ever larger. However, Takaki remembers the times they have shared together, but as life continues to unfold for him, he wonders if he would be given the chance to meet Akari again as the tale embarks on Takaki's realization of the world and people around him. It is important to note that the first episode takes place during a time period when cell phones are uncommon and e-mail has not yet reached the general populace.
Themes: School Life, Love Story
Duration: 62 minutes

I highly recommend you watch both these movies if you get the chance. If you have seen them already then go ahead and use this thread as a place of discussion but try not to spoil too much. They're lovely stories with great music scores, though the endings to both are bittersweet. The first one has a bit of comedy, the second one displays a more serious tone throughout its run-time.

Princess Mononoke
Release date: 1997
Language: English
SYNOPSIS:
The story takes place in a confusing era, when the system of the medieval era had collapsed and society was moving towards the modern era. At that time, although the population had increased and many virgin forests had been cut down, there still remained many ancient forests which refused humans. In dark, black forests of evergreen trees, animals such as mountain dogs, boars, and deer were huge and wise, and could understand human language. They were fighting against humans who invaded their sanctuary, and were feared as Raging Gods. The protagonist is Ashitaka, a descendant of a Royal family of the people who had been defeated by the Yamato government and had been living in a hidden mountain village in Northeast region for hundreds of years. He was put under a curse of death by the Boar God who had become "Mononoke", called "Tatari God" (Curse God) out of anger and hatred. He started on a journey to solve the mystery of the curse, and in the Western country he visited, he was dragged into a heroic battle between the Raging Gods and humans.
Howl's Moving Castle
(Note: This is an anime movie, though it seems that after its release disney was interested and took it to launch it on US)
