does the elemental weakness come into play here?
lightning/earth seems a bit contradictory to me...
since lightning is weak to earth...

Exually, Lightning is Weak againts Wind, Like in Rasenshuriken Vs Chidori (why this is, I have no Idea), The Lightning/Earth Is to Symbolize how Lighting is the gateway between Sky and Earth, And also gives is a bit more Flexabilty. As Lightining is more Formless than even Wind or Water, it is limited on it's uses (uslly only seen as a Busts of Energy, as in Chidoir, or in a Weapon, as in the Lightning Sword thingy), pairing it with Earth gives it more Options.
